About the role

The Director of Dental Services provides clinical, operational, and strategic leadership for RAHC’s dental program, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, accessible, and patient-centered oral health services. Reporting to the CEO, the Director oversees dental clinical operations, provider performance, quality improvement, compliance, and program growth across all dental service sites, including school-based and community outreach programs.

This role balances clinical leadership with administrative oversight to ensure regulatory compliance, financial sustainability, workforce development, and integration of oral health into RAHC’s whole-person care model.

The Director of Dental Services is a consultant to the Board of Directors, CEO, Medical Director, Behavioral Health Director, and other Executive Leadership regarding health care programs and works with other key staff in areas of quality improvement, strategic goals, grants management, and other areas as indicated.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee dental clinical operations, provider performance, quality improvement, compliance, and program growth across all dental service sites, including school-based and community outreach programs.
  • Balances clinical leadership with administrative oversight to ensure regulatory compliance, financial sustainability, workforce development, and integration of oral health into RAHC’s whole-person care model.
  • Works with other key staff in areas of quality improvement, strategic goals, grants management, and other areas as indicated.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from an accredited dental school required
  • Current, unrestricted Virginia dental license (or ability to obtain prior to start date) required
  • DEA registration (or eligibility to obtain) required

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5–7 years of clinical dental practice experience required
  • Prior experience in a community health center, FQHC, public health, or safety-net setting strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience in a dental setting preferred
  • Experience with:
  • School-based or community dental programs
  • Medicaid and managed care dental programs
  • Quality improvement and compliance activities

Skills

  • Strong clinical and administrative skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations and compliance

Pay

This position is eligible for a sign-on bonus.

Schedule

This position will have a Monday - Friday (5 day/8 hour) schedule and will be based on-site in a school 10 months per year.
