Responsibilities
- Provides direct clinical assistance and support to Dentists and Dental Hygienists
- Mixes materials; places rubber dam; takes study models impressions
- Anticipates provider needs during treatment; keeps provider informed of schedule changes and unfilled appointments; triages emergency patients; makes providers aware of client needs
- Performs Dental Assisting and expanded functions, including rubber cup prophylaxis, applying sealants, polishing amalgams, placing/removing matrix retainers, removing excess cement, placing temporary restorations
- Sets up and disinfects operatories following proper procedures; reports necessary repair needs; observes PPE guidelines and monitors supply levels
- Interacts with patients in a respectful and courteous manner; proactively monitors client wait times; conducts phone follow-up and documentation for missed patient appointments; acts as liaison with treatment staff and providers
Qualifications
- Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade
- Possession of an appropriate and valid certificate of Expanded Function Dental Assistant, including a certification of radiologic proficiency issued by the Oregon State Board of Dental Examiners (A graduate from an accredited dental assistant program)
- BLS CPR Certification or ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire
- Successful completion of a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association is a prerequisite for performing the application of pit and fissure sealants. Successful completion of courses of instruction required prior to certification.
- One (1) year of responsible dental assistant experience preferred
