About The Opportunity

Washington County Cooperative Library Services (WCCLS) is currently seeking a full-time Courier to join our Materials Movement team. You will sort and deliver library materials between our 16 member library locations in Washington County - quickly getting books, movies, and more into the hands of our patrons! Couriers transport library materials using a 15-foot, 2-ton box truck (no special license required) and sort library materials at our warehouse in Hillsboro using automated materials handling equipment.

You will be joining WCCLS at an exciting time, as we are working with partner libraries to centralize collection management and technical services (cataloging and materials processing). The Materials Movement team will work closely with other teams to support these new operations. This is a full-time, 40-hour a week position that works weekends. Our team starts every day bright and early at 7:00am.

On a typical day, you might load a delivery truck with library totes full of library materials, make deliveries and pick up materials at 3-6 libraries on your route, return to the WCCLS warehouse to drop off your totes, and work alongside your teammates to induct materials on our automated central sorter. Your routes give you an opportunity to see the inner workings of our system and libraries, and you have the chance to interact with library staff (our internal customers) and the public every day. You might also find yourself shelving library items, opening and inspecting shipments, packaging items for library mail, and assisting with interlibrary loans.

Responsibilities

• Drive and deliver supplies, equipment, and materials in any weather condition
• Check orders for accuracy and appropriateness
• Safely use moving/loading equipment such as electric pallet jacks, hand trucks, dollies, and other hand tools
• Operate automated mail metering equipment or Automated Materials Handling equipment for library materials
• Lift heavy and bulky items weighing up to 50 lbs. or more
• Push and pull items weighing up to 80 lbs. or more
• Rapidly locate streets and addresses
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with individuals and groups who come from diverse backgrounds and represent members of the public, coworkers, and/or vendors
• Sort and deliver library materials between member libraries
• Shelve library items, open and inspect shipments, package items for library mail, and assist with interlibrary loans

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• One (1) year of work experience as a courier, delivery driver, or in a warehousing related field
• Possess a driver's license valid in the State of Oregon and have an acceptable driving record per Washington County policy
• Pass a criminal background check (for some positions in this classification)
• Pass a post-offer physical abilities assessment prior to appointment (Job Task Analysis for Delivery Clerk Series)

Pay

$22.14 - $26.91 hourly

Schedule

• Full-time, 40 hours per week
• Weekend shifts required
• Start time: 7:00 AM

About The Department

WCCLS is the primary funding source for public libraries in Washington County and provides the essential infrastructure that links independently operated library buildings together into one system that is accessible to all county residents. This includes library collections, technology access, the integrated library system and discovery layer, materials movement, and administering the cooperative library system, including policies, contracts, data analysis and reporting. The cooperative model ensures that residents in cities big and small, as well as rural and unincorporated areas across the county, have access to the same life-changing library services.
