Deli Clerk

About the Role

As a Deli Clerk, your day is centered around preparing fresh food and creating a welcoming experience for customers. You’ll help customers choose from deli meats, cheeses, hot foods, and prepared items while keeping service friendly and efficient. The role involves slicing meats, preparing grab‑and‑go options, stocking and cleaning the department, maintaining organized displays, and monitoring product freshness and temperature.

Responsibilities

• Prepare hot and cold deli items, including slicing, assembling, and portioning.
• Maintain organized, stocked, and visually appealing display cases.
• Monitor product freshness and temperature to ensure safety and quality.
• Take customer orders in person or by phone and provide clear communication.
• Process transactions and make accurate change using register systems.
• Operate slicers and other food‑preparation equipment following training and safety guidelines.
• Restock merchandise, clean work areas, and keep the department ready throughout the day.
• Adapt to a fast‑paced environment with changing customer demand.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Ability to operate slicers and food‑preparation equipment safely.
• Basic math skills for weighing, portioning, and transactions.
• Availability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Prior food service or customer service experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Strong customer interaction skills with clear communication.
• Experience preparing deli products, including slicing, assembling, and portioning.
• Knowledge of deli meats, cheeses, prepared foods, and hot‑case items.
• Attention to detail for accurate portioning, labeling, pricing, and order completion.
• Excellent organization and time‑management abilities.
• Merchandising awareness to keep displays stocked, clean, and consistent.
• Cash‑handling proficiency.
• Commitment to food safety, sanitation, and company procedures.
• Physical capability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 35 lb, and work in varying temperatures.
