About the role

A Day in the Life – Deli Clerk: Your day centers on preparing fresh food and creating a welcoming experience for customers. You’ll help customers choose from deli meats, cheeses, hot foods, and prepared items while keeping service friendly and efficient. Responsibilities include slicing meats, preparing grab‑and‑go options, stocking and cleaning the department, maintaining organized displays, and monitoring product freshness and temperature. The role is active and fast‑paced, ideal for someone who enjoys staying busy.

Responsibilities

• Prepare hot and cold deli items, including slicing, assembling, and portioning.
• Maintain organized, stocked, and visually appealing display cases.
• Monitor product freshness, temperature, and labeling accuracy.
• Take customer orders in person or by phone and provide clear communication.
• Process transactions and make accurate change using register systems.
• Operate slicers and other food‑preparation equipment safely.
• Restock merchandise throughout the shift and keep the department clean.
• Follow food safety, sanitation, and company procedures.

Qualifications & Skills

• Strong customer interaction skills with clear communication.
• Experience preparing deli products, including slicing, assembling, and portioning.
• Knowledge of deli meats, cheeses, prepared foods, and hot‑case items.
• Attention to detail for portioning, labeling, pricing, and order completion.
• Organizational and time‑management abilities to handle multiple tasks.
• Merchandising awareness to keep displays stocked, clean, and consistent.
• Cash‑handling proficiency with register systems.
• Operational awareness of food safety and sanitation standards.
• Adaptability to a fast‑paced environment with changing customer demand.
• Physical capability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 35 lb, and work in varying temperatures.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Ability to operate slicers and food‑preparation equipment following training and safety guidelines.
• Basic math skills for weighing, portioning, and transactions.
• Availability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Prior food‑service or customer‑service experience preferred.
