Duties
- Perform defensible space inspections in accordance with Public Resources Code Section 4291.
- Increase awareness, knowledge and actions implemented by individuals and communities to reduce human loss and property damage from wildfires, such as defensible space and other fuels reduction activities, fire prevention and fire safe building standards.
Minimum Qualifications
- Completion of at least 12 semester units or 18 quarter units from a recognized accredited college or university in forestry or fire science, natural resource management, conservation, or a closely related subject.
- Three (3) months of experience with public or private entities performing sub-professional work in forestry, fire prevention, fire suppression and control, natural resource management, or other related work.
Working Conditions
- Required to wear respiratory protection equipment, including self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
- Requires above-average ability, endurance, and superior condition, including occasional demand for extraordinarily strenuous activities in emergencies, under adverse environmental conditions, and over extended periods of time.
- Field work involves running, walking, difficult climbing, jumping, twisting, bending and lifting over 25 pounds.
- The pace of work is typically set by the emergency.
