About the role

Serve as the driver’s supervisor and company representative in Operations. Manage driver performance in key categories and act as the primary communication link to drivers. Work to achieve optimum driver and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the sole communications link to drivers, including load information, advances, purchase orders, maintenance coordination, performance counseling, and dissemination of general company news and information.
  • Manage a full board of tractors and drivers to ensure optimum performance in the following categories:
    • Ensure data entry accuracy (99.5% target) and minimize coding errors on service failures.
    • Maintain driver turnover within ideal monthly ranges, with preventable turnover never exceeding 60%.
    • Achieve utilization goals of 310–326 miles per unit (MPU) per day, adjusted for dedicated freight as needed.
    • Minimize service failures by communicating customer expectations to drivers.
    • Monitor overall safety, including hours of service, unsafe driving, and CSA scores, which impact bonus potential.
  • Ensure drivers stay current on preventative maintenance for their trucks.
  • Update drivers on road conditions and restrictions as communicated by the Safety Department.
  • Communicate driver medical conditions or attendance issues to HR in a timely manner.
  • Handle driver complaints, escalate to the appropriate department, and ensure timely resolution.
  • Collaborate with Load Planners and other Fleet Managers to plan future workload.
  • Work with Service and Breakdown departments to maintain equipment and meet service schedules.
  • Think strategically and adapt to rapidly changing situations while maintaining a positive, team-oriented attitude.
  • Stay well-organized and engaged with team members.
  • Maintain a positive attitude with co-workers and supervisors, exercising trust and responsiveness when issues arise.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree or 1–2 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily (reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities).

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2-year degree in a related field.
  • 3 years of experience in transportation.
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions with little supervision.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
