Decom Manager, Data Center Operations

About the role

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is expanding our infrastructure management team in the Amazon Dedicated Cloud (ADC) and invites cleared professionals to join our elite team. The successful candidate will manage a team providing tracking, auditing, accountability, and decommission processing of all hardware across multiple geographically separated ADC data centers. This role involves mentoring people at all levels, managing large projects, and proposing technical solutions to complex problems. The manager will ensure customer data is protected through physical security and cradle-to-grave tracking of all storage media.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise a Decom team of hourly employees within the ADC, ensuring overall safety and security across multiple teams/shifts.
• Strategic planning, forecasting, and problem resolution; address staffing needs.
• Mentor, train, and develop direct reports for career progression; appraise performance; reward and discipline employees.
• Write and deliver annual performance reviews to senior management.
• Develop, improve, and share operational best practices across all ADC regions.
• Collaborate with supporting functions and operational regions to develop performance KPIs and metrics; drive throughput efficiencies by continuously improving operational processes.
• Manage a team responsible for tracking, auditing, scanning, and destruction of all media and parts using approved equipment.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent, or A+ or CND (Certified Network Defender) or Network+ or Security+ certification.
• 2 years of experience hiring and managing performance of technicians to meet service level agreements.
• 1 year of experience working on IT hardware, including repairs, assembly, manufacturing, installations, or life cycle decommissioning.
• 1 year of experience with inventory management systems.
• Current, active US Government Security Clearance at the Top Secret (TS/SCI) level with polygraph.
• Ability to engage in physical activities, with or without reasonable accommodation, including:
  • Lifting and moving material up to 40 pounds.
  • Working in cramped and/or elevated locations.
  • Bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching.
  • Standing and walking for up to 8+ hours a day.
  • Ascending and descending ladders, stairs, and gangways safely.
  • Working in a noisy environment.
  • Working shifts longer than 8 hours to support 24/7 operations (covering both night and day shifts).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing operational metrics.
• Experience with performance metrics, process improvement, and Lean techniques.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 2+ years in a data center technology role with experience in physical data center infrastructure (e.g., copper/fiber cabling).
• Experience working with teams to articulate and refine requirements for improving scanning, tracking, inventory, database software, and tooling.

Pay

Base salary range: $78,400 – $137,300 USD annually (location: Aurora, CO). Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
