Ergon Marine & Industrial Supply, Inc., offers an opportunity for a Deckhand at its Vicksburg location. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys physical work and prefers a less frequent work schedule compared to living-aboard positions.
About the Role
Ergon Marine & Industrial Supply, Inc., supports vessels and tows, working alongside other crews in a team environment. As a Deckhand, you will not live aboard the vessels, allowing for more time at home.
Responsibilities
- Complete Deckhand Job Qualification Workbook within 90 days of employment
- Complete Vessel Orientation within 12 hours of boarding a vessel
- Deckhands and crewmembers are responsible for their own health, safety, and hygiene
- Train under the guidance of the captain and an experienced deckhand to learn the duties of a deckhand
- Use proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while aboard any EMIS or customer vessel or dock
- Ask questions and understand the safe way to perform a task before attempting to do it
- Be familiar with company policies, procedures, safety rules, and regulations, abiding by them at all times
- Report any hazardous or unsafe conditions to the captain and take action to prevent accidents
- Assume the responsibilities of Deckhand as trained to perform them
- Assist other personnel when needed
Qualifications
- Must be eighteen years of age
- High School Diploma or GED
- Physically fit to perform manual labor
- Must be able to lift 70 lbs
- Must be able to read, write, and comprehend written instructions, documents, etc.
- Must be able to swim
- Must obtain or be in possession of a valid TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Card)
- Must have a valid Driver's License
- The person selected must be able to work in any environment (heat, cold, rain, etc.)
