About the role

This position is responsible to maintain the vessel in a state of readiness, assisting in navigation and operations, handling cargo, supplies and equipment and preforming work as directed by captain.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in making tow; transfer of rigging; lay rigging; handle lines; shift, drop or pickup barges; checking tow; move and operate portable pumps; assist in making locks or bridges; assist in mid-stream transfers; routine housekeeping duties; and general maintenance of the boat and barges.
  • Pulling heavy lines, climbing onto and walking on barges, boats and narrow barge walkways.
  • Responsible for hosing decks and freeing lines.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Required Work Experience: Two years decking experience on the inland river system.
  • Travel Requirements: Must be available to work schedule of 14 days on vessel, 7 days off (crew change on Thursday).
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Possess a valid TWIC card.
    • River knowledge to include navigation skills and knowledge of hazards.
    • Demonstrable rigging skills.
    • Ability to communicate using a two-way radio.
    • Demonstrable skills at confined space and pumping procedures; fueling procedures.
    • Highly dependable, ability to work in fast paced environment.
    • Ability to work collaboratively.

Qualifications

  • This job requires shift work, callouts, scheduled and unscheduled overtime, weekend and holiday work. Employees may have the work schedule adjusted on short notice.
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
