About the role
The Dean of Student Supports plays a crucial role in fostering a respectful and supportive school culture. They collaborate with the Principal to implement and enforce policies, manage student discipline, and promote a culture of “College for Certain.”
Responsibilities
- Implement, model, and enforce policies and practices related to student discipline and Aspire cultural norms.
- Participate and lead parent conferences involving matters related to discipline and attendance.
- Document, manage, and report on student discipline data using appropriate systems.
- Collaborate with the Administrative team to ensure compliance with Student Services including 504 plans, SSTs, and Home Hospital and Independent Study programs.
- Oversee and develop student mediation/conflict resolution programs.
- Respond to and participate in complaints or investigations of student misbehavior, working with school staff to determine appropriate resolutions.
- Supervise students during school-sponsored activities and plan extracurricular activities that support interpersonal skills and relationships.
- Manage relationships with outside vendors, contractors, and entities providing student activities.
- Assign work, supervise, and evaluate direct reports, build and maintain relationships with parents, community stakeholders, and other school staff.
- Support teachers with classroom management, deliver professional development, and ensure compliance with regulations.
- Collaborate with the Principal and Home Office to achieve site and organizational goals, lead projects, and participate in staff meetings and training.
- Ensure a safe and productive learning environment by collaborating with students, parents, and staff.
- Manage emergency issues and participate in safety drills and policy development.
Qualifications
- Competencies: Knowledge of business and management principles, excellent communication skills, interpersonal relationships, conflict resolution, applicable laws, and physical requirements.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree required; Masters or Ph.D. in Education preferred.
- Experience: 3+ years working in underserved communities as a full-time teacher, 5+ years teaching and/or administrative experience preferred.
- Physical requirements: Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, grasping, pushing, pulling, lifting up to 30 pounds, repetitive hand use, normal depth perception, sitting, walking, standing, typing, reading, hearing, and understanding speech.
- Work authorization: Clear DOJ background screening, authorized to work in the US, and health clearance.
