Primary Purpose
Under the direct supervision of a School Principal, to assist administrators, teachers, parents and students in resolving student attendance, behavioral and disciplinary problems in a consistent manner.
Essential Functions
- Aid teachers, parents and students in resolving non-academic student issues in the school, such as behavioral problems.
- Maintain records of any student disciplinary actions taken in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, and District policies.
- Confer with parents, teachers, support services personnel and students on matters of discipline and problem solving.
- Provide mentoring services to students and consultation services to parents.
- Report to administrators, teachers, school attendance staff, parents, and students relative to issues affecting student performance.
- Recommend appropriate programs for students to assist them with behavioral problems.
- Instruct and advise students regarding their responsibility to adhere to school rules and policies, to foster a safe school environment, and to respect other individuals and property.
- Absorb and arrange for appropriate tutorial instruction related to assigned academic work.
- Absorb and assist in addressing student attendance problems.
- Absorb and assist in the administration of the In-School Suspension Program and co-curricular activities.
- Arrange meetings as directed with students, parents, teachers, and administrators regarding disciplinary problems in school.
- Counsel individual students as needed and make appropriate referrals for testing, guidance or other services.
- Coordinate with community and government agencies relating to drug and alcohol abuse, truancy, and other conduct.
- Absorb in developing policies and practices to assure building security and safety.
- Absorb in assisting in the preparation of student expulsion hearings.
Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned.
Equipment
Use standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copier and fax machines, and telephone.
Travel Requirements
Travel to school district buildings as required.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
Work in standard office and school building environments.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations regarding student discipline, bullying, sexual harassment, etc.
- Knowledge of student behavior management techniques.
- Knowledge of dispute resolution techniques and ability to engage in dispute resolution.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
Qualifications
- [State] State Certification as required for position.
- Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
- Bachelor's and Masters Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Successful experience working with children at risk.
- Successful experience developing and implementing professional development programs relating to non-academic student behavioral issues preferred.
Salary
$8,000 per year stipend.
