DCSS Managing Attorney
About the role
The Ventura County Department of Child Support Services (DCSS) seeks a Managing Attorney to lead its legal activities. The successful candidate will manage and supervise staff, handle civil litigation involving paternity and child support, and support a diverse and inclusive workplace.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and supervise legal activities of the Department of Child Support Services
- Manage staff including supervising, interviewing, training, evaluating performance, and disciplining
- Conduct legal research to analyze and apply legal principles and precedents to complex legal problems
- Present civil court cases related to California Family Law and Child Support
- Support an environment to achieve a diverse and inclusive culture
Requirements
- Progressively responsible experience in child support law and personnel management for a minimum of five (5) years in a private or public legal office
- Licensed by the California State Bar Association
- Valid California driver license
- Clearance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Department of Justice (DOJ)
- Experience in LCSA DCSS operations regulated by Title IV-D program
- Experience presenting civil court cases related to California Family Law and Child Support
- Experience managing staff including supervising, interviewing, training, evaluating performance, and disciplining
- Experience conducting legal research to analyze and apply legal principles and precedents to complex legal problems
Qualifications
- Education, Training, and Experience: Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in child support law and personnel management in a private or public legal office
- Necessary Special Requirements: Possession of and the ability to maintain a valid California driver license
- Additional Requirements: FBI and DOJ clearance as a condition of employment

- A salary range of $197,522.83 - $276,559.07 annually

THE POSITION
The Managing Attorney, under the supervision of the Director of Child Support Services, oversees the legal activities of the Department of Child Support Services. This role involves planning, organizing, and supervising legal activities, managing staff, handling civil litigation, and supporting a diverse and inclusive workplace.
PAYROLL TITLE
The Managing Attorney is an at-will classification exempt from the provisions of the Civil Service Ordinance.
Pay
The salary range for this position is $197,522.83 - $276,559.07 annually.
