DCO Facilities Technician II
About the role
This role supports the operation and maintenance of mission-critical electrical and mechanical systems within Switch data centers. You perform preventive maintenance, respond to infrastructure alarms, and support vendors during maintenance and expansion activities.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on critical power and cooling systems.
- Respond to infrastructure alarms including high temperature, UPS, battery, fluid cooler, and pump system alerts.
- Support vendors and contractors during maintenance and expansion projects.
- Complete work orders accurately and on time within the CMMS.
- Inspect buildings, grounds, and equipment for unsafe or malfunctioning conditions.
- Follow Switch safety policies and procedures, including OSHA and NFPA requirements.
- Absorb and update operational procedures and documentation.
- Support troubleshooting of electrical, mechanical, and environmental wiring systems including CAT5, CAT6, and Modbus connections.
- Utilize diagnostic tools such as thermal imaging equipment to assess system performance.
- Ensure customer compliance with Switch Acceptable Use Policy when applicable.
- Participate in assigned training and technical development activities.
Requirements
- Solid working knowledge of mission-critical electrical and mechanical systems.
- Ability to follow procedures and respond calmly to alarms and operational events.
- Strong attention to safety and compliance standards.
- Clear communication with team members, vendors, and leadership.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Qualifications
- 4 or more years of experience in facilities, mechanical, electrical, or electronics environments, including at least 2 years in mechanical or electrical systems.
- Technical trade school training in mechanical, electrical, or related field preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Ability to interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Familiarity with systems including generators, transformers, switchgear, UPS systems, ATS or STS units, PDUs, CRAC units, pumps, and fire suppression systems.
- Required certifications: OSHA 10, NFPA 70E (Arc Flash), First Aid or CPR, and other site-specific safety training within designated timeframes.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and basic computer systems.
- Ability to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally and perform physical tasks including climbing ladders and working near live equipment.
