About the role
The Office of the Inspector General within the Division of Criminal Justice (DCJ) is seeking a full-time Deputy Assistant State's Attorney or Apprentice Prosecutor. The position is based in Shelton, CT, and requires strong writing and research skills to assist in preparing public reports regarding investigations.
Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing public reports regarding the results of investigations into officer-involved use of force incidents and in-custody deaths.
- Work Monday through Friday, typically 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., with flexibility to work outside of regular hours as needed.
- May be required to travel in the course of their daily work.
Requirements
- Must be an attorney at law and a member of the Connecticut Bar in good standing.
- For Apprentice Prosecutor positions, must be within five months of graduation from an accredited law school and certified as a legal intern by the Superior Court.
- Must be willing to respond outside of normal work hours to active crime or incident scenes around the state.
Qualifications
Applicants must have a juris license number on their application. No prior experience is required for Apprentice Prosecutor positions.
Skills
Strong writing and research skills, interpersonal skills, negotiation skills, trial and counseling skills, and excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.

Pay
The starting salary for a DCJ Deputy Assistant State's Attorney is $97,997 to $175,434.00 annually; the Apprentice Prosecutor is paid at $46.94 per hour. Starting salary will be determined by the Division head based on the selected candidate's work experience.
Schedule
The position generally works Monday through Friday, based on a 40-hour work week, with core hours of 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
