About the role

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. This team ensures the cloud runs by supporting all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that provide continual access to innovation for customers. You’ll work on complex problems with thousands of variables, collaborating with software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers to deliver high safety and security standards while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost.

As a Data Center Chief Engineer (CE), you will ensure all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center operates at peak efficiency. This involves planned preventative maintenance, daily corrective work, and emergency response. You’ll serve as an expert technical resource, interacting with onsite Engineering Operations Technicians (EOT) and third-party vendors, acting as the focal point for all facility operations within a given data center.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead the DCEO Engineering Team.
  • Establish performance benchmarks, conduct analysis, and prepare reports on critical facility operations and maintenance.
  • Oversee on-site management of shift technicians, senior shift technicians, sub-contractors, and vendors.
  • Manage routine and emergency services for critical systems, including switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, and building monitoring systems.
  • Support data center capacity planning and reporting.
  • Assist in the design and build-out of new facilities.
  • Collaborate with IT managers and business leaders to coordinate projects, manage capacity, and optimize plant safety, performance, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Deliver quality service and ensure all customer demands are met.
  • Manage asset and inventory.
  • Respond to after-hours emergency calls as the second-level escalation point for data center facility-related issues or failures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in vendor management.
  • Experience in a data center or other critical environment.
  • Experience in data center engineering or operations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in construction or project management.

Pay

Base salary range: $96,000.00 – $166,300.00 USD annually.
