Responsibilities
- Classroom Management
- Maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
- Move students as required by teachers.
- Develop and reinforce school-wide rules and expectations.
- Ensure smooth operation of all classroom instructional functions.
- Knowledge of Subject Matter
- Communicate accurate knowledge of subject matter in a comprehensible manner.
- Apply concepts, laws, and rules relevant to subject matter.
- Demonstrate breadth of subject matter knowledge.
- Use current references, materials, and technologies of the subject field.
- Check student comprehension and provide accurate feedback.
- Planning for Instruction
- Design the academic program based on assessed student needs.
- Prepare instructional materials.
- Assist in preparation and implementation of lesson plans.
- Delivery of Instruction
- Provide academic assistance and support for individual and/or small groups.
- Afford access to media and technology in the classroom.
- Deliver lessons in the absence of the teacher.
- Engage students using consistent practices and individualized methods.
- Offer varied instructional techniques and opportunities.
- Assessment of Student Performance
- Administer appropriate assessments to measure student progress.
- Evaluate student progress regularly and provide feedback to students and parents.
- Communication
- Establish and maintain cooperative relations with other employees.
- Communicate with students and parents about academic and behavioral progress.
- Prepare progress reports for school personnel and parents.
- Professional Development
- Continue professional growth through educational inservice, meetings, and professional literature.
- Other Professional Responsibilities
- Protect students, materials, equipment, and facilities.
- Ensure necessary records are available for each student.
- Perform other responsibilities as directed.
- All employees must be fingerprinted and pass a background screening process.
- Desired Qualifications include an associate’s degree, 60 hours of college/university level coursework, 3 years of instructional assistant experience, or demonstrated proficiency on district assessment.
