Your daily impact
As a Street Sweeper, you’ll be at the heart of SCA’s mission—delivering essential services that improve public safety and environmental quality. You will own assigned routes, operate specialized equipment, and maintain clean, well-kept streets while upholding company standards and safety protocols.
Responsibilities
- Safety & Inspection: Perform pre-trip and post-trip equipment inspections; ensure all safety features are operational before starting your route.
- Execution: Review assigned routes thoroughly before departure; clarify any unclear expectations; complete jobs within allotted timeframes while maintaining quality and attention to detail.
- Equipment Operation: Operate equipment safely and efficiently, following traffic laws, company safety procedures, and site-specific protocols; exercise caution in inclement weather or challenging conditions.
- Material Handling: Handle materials safely and securely; apply correct procedures for material types and disposal sites.
- Reporting: Report equipment issues, malfunctions, near misses, crashes, or injuries within 30 minutes or as soon as safely possible; escalate opportunities, work issues, or safety concerns to management.
- Professional Communication: Maintain a professional attitude and appearance; communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and clients as needed.
- Compliance & Documentation: Accurately complete required logs, manifests, and forms.
- Adaptability & Problem Solving: Respond appropriately to changes and challenges; identify and solve issues in a timely manner.
- Regular & Predictable Attendance: Consistently report to work on time and as scheduled, with minimal unexcused absences; adhere to start times, breaks, and end times.
Minimum Job Requirements
- Education: High School diploma or GED
- Experience: 1 year DOT driving experience; waste & recycling services experience preferred
- License: CDL-B & DOT Medical Card
- Age: Must be at least 21 years of age
- Compliance: Must maintain an acceptable driving record and successfully pass an MVR check, background check, and drug screening in accordance with company policy and applicable law.

- Communication & Issue Reporting: Effectively communicate with supervisors and teammates, represent the Company professionally, and promptly report equipment issues, incidents, or safety concerns.

Physical Requirements
- Work Environment & Exposure: Constant outdoor work with regular exposure to weather, elements, and traffic; occasional exposure to loud noise, dust/debris, and jarring conditions; limited exposure to chemicals.
- Physical Demands: Frequent sitting and walking/standing; occasional bending, twisting, squatting, kneeling, pushing/pulling; limited stair climbing and crawling; ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs at varying heights, including overhead.
- Cognitive & Sensory Requirements: Continuous reading, screen use, mental focus, and hand-eye coordination throughout the workday.
- Equipment & Tools: Operation of specialized equipment (e.g., mechanical broom sweeper) and use of hand controls, foot controls, and fine motor skills.
- Safety & Protective Gear: Required use of appropriate PPE, including high-visibility apparel, eye, ear, hand, foot, head, lung, and skin protection.
