Database Specialist
About the role
The Database Specialist supports data management, reporting, and quality assurance for research and evaluation projects serving commercial, state, and federal clients. This role designs, builds, and maintains relational databases tailored to project needs, implements data validation, and supports secure data transfer and access control.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain relational databases tailored to project needs
- Implement policies for data storage and security
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members and provide technical support to align database information with project needs
- Review and improve existing data workflows and processes to enhance accuracy and operational efficiency
- Conduct data intake, cleaning, validation, transformation, and integration processes from multiple sources
- Write, test, optimize, and document SQL queries, stored procedures, scripts, and data extracts to support analysis and reporting
- Implement data validation to identify missing, inconsistent, duplicate, or out-of-range data and coordinate resolution with project teams
- Support secure data transfer, access control, backup, retention, and versioning practices consistent with project requirements and internal data policies
- Prepare recurring and ad hoc datasets, reports, extracts, and data summaries
- Troubleshoot database issues, improve workflow efficiency, and recommend process improvements that strengthen data reliability and reduce manual effort
- Develop backend processes for independent data filtering, aggregation, and reporting by team members
Requirements
- Proficiency in Python and SQL
- Strong data governance skills, including validation, analysis, and reporting
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Relational database design, implementation, and maintenance experience

Pay
$75,000 - $100,000 depending on level of education, qualifications, and experience
