Database Engineer (DBE) – Skill Level 2 with Security Clearance
About the role
The Database Engineer will provide technical expertise for database design, development, implementation, information storage and retrieval, data flow, and data analysis. This role involves developing relational and object-oriented databases, database parser and loading software, and project long-range requirements for database administration and design.
Responsibilities
- Develop database structures aligned with overall system architecture, making trade-offs among data volumes, user populations, distribution, response times, retention rules, security, and domain controls.
- Support the analysis and evaluation of system improvements, optimization efforts, development activities, and maintenance efforts related to database systems.
- Support the development of both long-term and short-term requirements for database administration and database design.
- Translate requirements and data into a usable database schema by creating or recreating ad hoc queries, scripts, and macros, updating existing queries, and creating new queries to manipulate data into a master file.
- Develop database structures that fit within the overall architecture of the system under development.
- Develop requirement recommendations from project inception through project conclusion for specific business and information technology subject matter areas, supporting systems ranging from simple to complex.
- Build complex systems using queries, tables, Open Database Connectivity, and database storage and retrieval solutions leveraging cloud methodologies.

- Must possess the ability to support the analysis and evaluation of system improvements, optimization efforts, development activities, and maintenance efforts related to database systems.
- Must be capable of supporting the development of both long-term and short-term requirements for database administration and database design.
- Must have the ability to translate requirements and data into a usable database schema by creating or recreating ad hoc queries, scripts, and macros, updating existing queries, and creating new queries to manipulate data into a master file.
- Must possess the ability to develop database structures that fit within the overall architecture of the system under development.
- Must be capable of developing requirement recommendations from project inception through project conclusion for specific business and information technology subject matter areas, supporting systems ranging from simple to complex.
- Must have the ability to develop database structures aligned with overall system architecture while making trade-offs among data volumes, number of users, logical and physical distribution, response times, retention rules, security requirements, and domain controls.
- Five years of experience as a Database Engineer supporting programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity, or nine years of Database Engineer experience if no bachelor’s degree is held.
- A bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university, or four additional years of Database Engineer experience may be substituted for the degree.
- An active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph is required.
