Database Engineer
About the role
GRVTY is seeking a Database Engineer with a TS/SCI + Poly clearance to join a project in Annapolis Junction, MD. The Database Engineer provides technical expertise for database design, development, implementation, information storage and retrieval, data flow, and analysis. Responsibilities include developing relational and/or Object-Oriented databases, database parser software, and database loading software, as well as projecting long-range requirements for database administration and design. The role involves making trade-offs among data volumes, number of users, logical and physical distribution, response times, retention rules, security, and domain controls. The Database Engineer works primarily at the front end of the lifecycle—from requirements through system acceptance testing and Initial Operational Capability (IOC).
Key activities include translating requirements and data into usable documents by creating or recreating ad hoc queries, scripts, and macros; updating existing queries; and building complex systems using queries, tables, Open Database Connectivity, and cloud-based database storage and retrieval.
Responsibilities
- Support the database design, development, implementation, information storage and retrieval, data flow, and analysis activities.
- Support the analysis and evaluation of system improvements, optimization, development, and/or maintenance efforts.
- Support the development of long- and short-term requirements for database administration and design.
- Assist in developing databases, database parser software, and database loading software.
- Translate a set of requirements and data into a usable database schema by creating or recreating ad hoc queries, scripts, and macros; update existing queries; and create new ones to manipulate data into a master file.
- Assist in developing database structures that fit into the overall architecture of the system under development.
- Lead development of database structures that fit into the overall architecture of the system under development, making trade-offs among data volumes, number of users, logical and physical distribution, response times, retention rules, security, and domain controls.
- Lead development of databases, database parser software, and database loading software.
- Develop requirement recommendations from a project’s inception to its conclusion for a particular business and IT subject matter area (simple to complex systems).
- Direct fulfillment of requirements from a project’s inception to its conclusion.
- Direct organization of requirements and data into a usable database schema by overseeing the development of ad hoc queries, scripts, macros, and updates to existing queries.
- Direct the overall database structure that fits into the overall architecture of the system under development, making trade-offs among data volumes, number of users, logical and physical distribution, response times, retention rules, security, and domain controls.
- Direct the development of complex systems using queries, tables, Open Database Connectivity, and database storage and retrieval using cloud methodologies.
Requirements
- Active TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance (applicable to this customer).
- Extensive experience with installation and patching associated with Oracle Database, Oracle Enterprise Manager, and Oracle Data Guard.
- Proficiency in Linux OS, Linux commands, and Bash scripting.
- Ten (10) years of experience as a Database Engineer in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university (five (5) years of Database Engineer experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree).

Pay
Maryland Pay Range: $170,000—$200,000 USD.
Compensation is influenced by geographic location, federal contract labor categories, wage rates, prior experience, skillsets, education, and certifications.
