About the role

Database Cloud Engineer contract (1+ year, possible extension) hybrid role based in New York, NY. The position is W2 only at $90‑$100 per hour, no corp‑to‑corp or third‑party agencies.

Responsibilities

• Engineer AWS database solutions that balance performance, durability, and security.
• Assist in migrating on‑prem Oracle and SQL Server databases to AWS.
• Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and GitLab pipelines.
• Write IaC code to install custom applications and COTS tools in AWS.
• Containerize code and COTS tools (e.g., using Docker, EKS, ECS, Kubernetes).
• Diagnose and remediate database performance issues.
• Assist with ad‑hoc projects, assignments, and responsibilities as needed.

Requirements

• Experience with containerization technologies: AWS EKS, ECS, Kubernetes (EKS).
• Experience with cloud and SaaS databases: AWS RDS (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle), Databricks, Mongo Atlas, NoSQL.
• Proven experience deploying and maintaining multi‑region database deployments in AWS.
• Strong working knowledge of Terraform and GitLab pipelines.
• Practical understanding of infrastructure technologies – compute, network, and storage.
• Hands‑on experience with VPC, AWS Transit VPC, Transit Gateway, and Direct Connect methodologies.

Skills

• Terraform coding and module development.
• Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes/EKS/ECS).
• AWS services: RDS, VPC, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, EKS, ECS.
• Database administration: Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, NoSQL.
• Infrastructure as Code best practices.
• Troubleshooting and performance tuning of databases.

Pay

$90‑$100 per hour (W2 only).
