Database Engineer III
About the role
As a Database Engineer III, you will be responsible for the overall development, testing, and deployment of database products in a cloud environment. This role involves designing and creating complex data models, developing data products to support business needs, and ensuring optimal performance and scalability. You will work with minimal supervision, mentor junior engineers, and may act as a technical project leader.
Responsibilities
- Design and create complex data models, develop and implement data products to support business needs.
- Analyze informational needs, data relationships, attributes, and storage requirements to define logical attributes and inter-relationships.
- Design data structures to accommodate business needs and test applications using database management or general programming software.
- Gather system metrics to identify and resolve problems, and determine performance enhancements with measurable benchmarks.
- Collaborate with DBA and Production Services staff to monitor and optimize data product performance.
- Own the design and modeling portion of data projects through all project stages, ensuring alignment with business requirements and IT strategy.
- Evaluate new technologies and develop project proposals for new IT services, including pilots and production applications.
- Debug complex data issues on very large datasets (billions of records).
- Work with business and technical audiences in requirement meetings, technical whiteboarding, and SQL coding/debugging sessions.
- Take initiative to pursue assignments and responsibilities to logical completion using SDLC standards.
- Mentor junior Database Engineers and provide work leadership for lower-level employees.
Requirements
- 5+ years of Data Management experience, including proposing, documenting technology solutions, and development with a focus on database architecture and data integration.
- 8+ years of hands-on experience working with data in a developer role, applying advanced engineering principles and analytics development.
- Fluent in SQL (any flavor) with experience in design, development, and deployment of data warehouses or relational/analytical/multi-dimensional data marts.
- Familiarity with Virtual Data Warehousing or Snowflake DWaaS.
- Expertise in Relational Database Management Systems and ELT (Extract/Load/Transform) development.
- Experience with cloud migrations and building data pipelines on Azure following best practices.
- Proven ability to debug complex data issues on very large datasets (billions of records).
- Strong ability to work with both business and technical stakeholders in requirement meetings and technical sessions.
- Initiative to drive assignments to completion using System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) standards.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work-related experience.
