Data Scientist

Delta Dental of Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana is seeking a Data Scientist (Hybrid position in Okemos, MI) to improve oral health through benefit plans, advocacy, and community support. The role involves implementing quantitative and predictive models, conducting data‑science experiments, developing visualizations, and continuously learning new techniques to enhance outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement advanced statistical models using causal modelling, machine learning, and optimization techniques.
• Lead the team in incorporating new data‑science techniques to enhance the organization’s best practices.
• Apply machine learning algorithms and predictive models to solve complex business challenges.
• Design and conduct data‑driven experiments to validate findings and hypotheses.
• Communicate insights and results to senior stakeholders and decision‑makers.
• Develop innovative approaches to data collection and validation, incorporating both structured and unstructured data sources.
• Perform other related assigned duties as necessary to complete the primary responsibilities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or another quantitative field (master’s degree in Data Science, Business Analytics, Health Informatics, or related field preferred).
• At least three years of experience working extensively with data.
• Knowledge of health or dental insurance, or dental clinical practice preferred.
• Experience with statistical modeling methods, machine learning algorithms, supervised and unsupervised learning, and data‑mining techniques.
• Proficiency with statistical software packages such as SAS, R, or equivalent (preferred).
• Experience with programming languages, especially Python and SQL, or equivalent.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex information to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Strong ability to collaborate within a team environment.
