About the role

Under the general direction of the Supervisor II within the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR), Division of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH, aka Cal/OSHA), the Supervisor I supervises the Data Integrity Unit. This position manages and coordinates the review of data for inconsistencies or anomalies, ensures timely updates, and streamlines data collection, reporting, and analysis procedures for fast access to metrics and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). The role ensures the accuracy, security, and reliability of databases and software platforms by setting validation policies, fixing workflow errors, and conducting routine audits.

The incumbent advises the Supervisor II and division management on the productivity, effectiveness, and efficiency of the Cal/OIS system. This position requires a high degree of initiative, independence, tact, and good judgment.

This is a full-time, limited-term position up to 12 months, with the possibility of extension up to 24 months or conversion to permanent status.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the Data Integrity Unit, overseeing planning, organization, and completion of work activities.
  • Manage and coordinate the review of data for inconsistencies or anomalies that could skew analytical results.
  • Ensure timely updates of information and streamline data collection, reporting, and analysis procedures.
  • Maintain the accuracy, security, and reliability of databases and software platforms by setting validation policies and fixing workflow errors.
  • Conduct routine audits to ensure data integrity.
  • Brief and advise the Supervisor II and division management on the productivity, effectiveness, and efficiency of the Cal/OIS system.
  • Demonstrate initiative, independence, tact, and good judgment in decision-making.
  • Promote a safe and secure work environment, free from discrimination, harassment, inappropriate conduct, or retaliation.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff at all levels within and outside of DOSH.

Working Conditions

  • Located at the Division of Occupational Safety and Health – Cal/OIS Data Integrity and Interface Unit, 2180 Harvard St. Suite 160, Sacramento, CA 95815.
  • Works in an air-conditioned, low-rise office building with natural and artificial lighting.
  • Works in a cubicle in close proximity to others.
  • Extensive computer use for drafting documents, conducting research, and preparing email communications.
  • Expected to conduct themselves professionally and respectfully at all times, including during work-related activities and when representing the Department.
