The Role
Hone is seeking a Data Engineering Intern to join our expanding data team. Reporting to the Senior Director of Data, Analytics & Machine Learning, you will collaborate with engineers, analysts, and product teams to develop and maintain scalable data systems and pipelines. Your responsibilities will include designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines, integrating diverse data sources, and translating business needs into technical solutions.
Primary Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL processes using Microsoft Fabric (Notebooks, Pipelines, Dataflows).
- Integrate data from various internal and external sources, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and reliability.
- Develop and maintain data models and transformations using dbt, focusing on different layers of the Fabric lakehouse.
- Collaborate with engineers, analysts, and product teams to implement data solutions and communicate through Slack and Azure DevOps (ADO).
- Conduct data quality checks, tests, validations, and optimizations across pipeline and model layers.
- Maintain and optimize data infrastructure in a cloud-native Azure environment.
- Adhere to best practices in version control and CI/CD using GitHub, including branch management, pull requests, and code reviews.
- Contribute to data documentation and ensure compliance with data governance, reliability, and scalability standards.
- Promote continuous improvement in data engineering processes and tools.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Strong foundation in SQL and experience with relational databases.
- Proficiency in Python and a keen interest in distributed data processing (PySpark experience is a plus).
- Understanding of data modeling, data warehousing, or analytics engineering concepts, with familiarity with dbt or medallion architecture.
- Experience with data pipeline orchestration or ETL development, especially with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, or similar tools.
- Comfortable working in a modern engineering workflow, including GitHub for version control, ADO for ticketing, and Slack for asynchronous communication.
- Exceptional analytical skills, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail.
- A proactive attitude towards learning new technologies and frameworks, with a commitment to personal growth.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a remote environment.
- A stable internet connection and access to a PC/laptop.
Compensation and Benefits
Up to $25/hr., averaging approximately 30-40 hours per week. Benefits include:
