Program Overview

The Enterprise Technology & Security Summer Internship Program is a 10‑week experience beginning in late May 2027. Interns will be based at one of the company headquarters in Johnston, RI; Phoenix, AZ; or Plano, TX. The program provides hands‑on exposure to modern cloud‑native data platforms, distributed data systems, and enterprise AI technologies.

Data Engineer Intern Responsibilities

  • Gain exposure to modern cloud‑native data platforms (AWS) and develop high‑scale batch and real‑time data pipelines.
  • Develop an understanding of distributed data systems (Spark) and strengthen programming skills in Java, Python, and SQL.
  • Build foundational knowledge of data modeling, ETL/ELT pipelines (Snowflake Pipe, Kafka streaming, etc.), and data product engineering for structured and unstructured data.
  • Develop an understanding of enterprise AI platforms that support machine learning, predictive analytics, and generative/agentic AI workloads.
  • Gain exposure to LLM‑based architectures, RAG, embeddings, vector databases, and agentic AI systems, including autonomous workflows, orchestration, and multi‑agent patterns.
  • Build experience contributing to AI solutions through APIs, microservices (FastAPI/Django), observability, and secure platform integration.

Experience During the Program

  • Orientation and networking with all ETS interns.
  • Professional development workshops (e.g., Personal Branding and Communicating with Impact).
  • Social activities such as sporting events and a bank‑wide intern BBQ.
  • Dedicated community service activities.
  • Mentorship and exposure to senior leadership.

Career Path

High‑performing interns may receive an offer to return as a full‑time colleague in the Enterprise Technology & Security Development Program (ETSDP) upon graduation. The ETSDP provides a pathway into software, network/systems, data or cloud engineering, technology risk, and security roles.

Basic Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or a related technology field.
  • Expected graduation date of May 2028.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Experience working with raw as well as prepared datasets.
  • Understanding of master data management principles and processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in a team environment with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Successful completion of a video interview assessment within 4 days of receipt.
  • Permanent work authorization in the United States (no CPT, OPT, or visa sponsorship available).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Practical experience or exposure to data engineering solutions gained through coursework, internships, or personal projects.
  • Familiarity with ETL, ELT, Star Schema, Hadoop, Apache Spark, Beam, Flink, and/or message brokers such as Apache Kafka.
  • Understanding of the banking industry, specifically custodial and consumer banking functions.

Work Schedule

  • Hours per week: 40
  • Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm
