Data Engineer II

About the role

Pacific Life is actively seeking a Data Engineer II to join our Customer Data team in Charlotte, North Carolina. This is not a remote position and will be on-site starting June 2026.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, and support ETL/ELT data pipelines that ingest and transform customer data into an existing Snowflake platform on AWS.
• Develop and maintain data transformations and models using tools such as dbt and Matillion, following established development standards and patterns.
• Participate in Agile delivery processes, contributing to sprint planning, development, testing, and deployment activities using Azure DevOps and CI/CD practices.
• Collaborate with senior data engineers, architects, and business partners to understand data requirements, analyze solutions, and deliver reliable customer data assets.
• Utilize approved AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity, code quality, and efficiency while adhering to Pacific Life data governance, security, and quality standards.

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience in data engineering, data integration, or a related technical role; Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or equivalent practical experience.
• Hands-on experience with SQL-based data platforms, ETL/ELT development, and modern cloud or MPP data environments (e.g., Snowflake).
• Working knowledge of AWS, dbt, Matillion, CI/CD pipelines, and Azure DevOps, or comparable tools.
• Proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language such as Python or Java.
• Ability to solve a range of straightforward technical problems using established processes, while receiving moderate guidance and direction.

Qualifications

• Cloud or data engineering certifications (AWS, Azure, or equivalent).
• Exposure to big data processing frameworks or platforms (e.g., Spark).
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, Claude) to support data engineering workflows.

Skills

• Strong understanding of data engineering principles and best practices.
• Experience with data modeling and database design.
• Knowledge of data warehousing and data management concepts.
• Proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language such as Python or Java.
• Experience with data transformation tools like dbt and Matillion.
• Understanding of cloud computing services and platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure).
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Agile methodologies.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Pay

The base pay range noted represents the company's good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications and geographic location. Also, most employees are eligible for additional incentive pay. $93,690.00 - $114,510.00

Schedule

This is a full-time position based in Charlotte, North Carolina. The employee will be expected to work standard business hours.
