About the Role
This entry-level role is ideal for a candidate eager to contribute in a dynamic, evolving environment, working closely with technicians and engineers to gather accurate and timely information for documentation purposes as directed by the Lead Technical Writer. This position is not hands-on or tool-based but requires physical presence in workshop and shop floor settings. Ideal for individuals who thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and enjoy being immersed in the day-to-day activity of engineering and manufacturing teams.
Responsibilities
- Support the development and maintenance of technical documentation for different platforms such as Small Unmanned Surface Vessels (sUSV) and their subsystems, including software, electronics and general support equipment.
- Work on the floor in shop environments, observing, recording, and organizing technical activities and processes as they occur.
- Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as well as standardized document formats and styles across the BlackSea family of platforms.
- Serve as a quality control gate for drafted documents, ensuring proper configuration, formatting, and compliance with internal standards before distribution.
- Travel within the United States up to 10% of the time.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of experience in data collection or technical writing, or an equivalent combination of education and training (e.g., an associate degree or relevant technical certification).
- Strong knowledge of technical documentation practices, including formatting, style guides, version control, and structured authoring.
- Experience working with or editing documents such as operations manuals, Product Technical Bulletins (PSBs), or test procedures.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat.
- Ability to follow standard templates to collect required information.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong grasp of grammar, clarity, and document consistency.
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, training, production, technician, and program management teams.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong task prioritization and time management skills.
- U.S. citizenship required; must be eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance, if necessary.
Desired Skills
- Experience in technical writing, preferably in a defense, maritime, or engineering-focused environment.
- Familiarity with maritime systems or military systems.
- Experience documenting military systems or government-contracted platforms (e.g., Navy, DoD).
- Experience developing training materials from source technical content.
- Ability to work within an Agile or fast-paced prototyping environment.
- Familiarity with configuration/data management tools (e.g., PLM, Jira, DOORS).
Pay
$22.00 - $26.00 per hour
