About the role
The Data Center Virtualization Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, supporting, and optimizing VMware-based virtualization platforms across enterprise environments. This role requires strong technical expertise, operational discipline, and the ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure challenges across compute, storage, and networking layers.
Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, configure, and maintain VMware virtualization platforms across on-premises and hybrid cloud environments.
- Manage and support VMware vSphere, vCenter, ESXi, vSAN, NSX, Aria, and related technologies.
- Administer virtualization infrastructure to ensure availability, performance, capacity, and operational stability.
- Configure and manage software-defined storage solutions, including vSAN and storage policies.
- Support software-defined networking environments using NSX technologies.
- Develop automation solutions using PowerCLI scripting and other infrastructure automation tools.
- Monitor platform performance, troubleshoot issues, and resolve incidents across compute, network, and storage layers.
- Support disaster recovery strategies, including VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM) implementations.
- Assist with Kubernetes and container platform integrations, including VMware Tanzu environments.
- Participate in platform upgrades, migrations, modernization efforts, and infrastructure improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, and technical teams to deliver reliable infrastructure solutions.
- Maintain documentation, operational procedures, and best practices for virtualization platforms.
Requirements
- Extensive experience managing enterprise VMware environments.
- Strong infrastructure engineering skills across virtualization, automation, storage, and networking technologies.
- Comfortable operating large-scale platforms and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of hands-on VMware platform engineering experience.
- Deep expertise with VMware vSphere, vCenter, and ESXi administration.
- Strong experience with VMware vSAN and storage policy management.
- Hands-on experience with NSX-T or NSX-V networking technologies.
- Strong PowerCLI scripting skills and experience with infrastructure automation.
- Familiarity with VMware Tanzu Kubernetes Grid or VMware container platforms.
- Strong understanding of disaster recovery concepts and VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM).
- Proven troubleshooting experience across virtualization, compute, networking, and storage environments.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with technical and business stakeholders.
- VMware certifications such as VCP or VCAP are preferred.
- Experience with VMware Cloud on AWS, Azure VMware Solution (AVS), or Google Cloud VMware Engine (GCVE) is a plus.
- Familiarity with VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) and Aria Operations / vRealize Operations is preferred.
- Exposure to migration programs involving alternative virtualization platforms is a plus.
