Data Center Technical Manager - Liquid Cooling

About the Role

As a Technical Manager at CBRE, you will assist with the management of the team responsible for all mechanical operations, maintenance, communications, energy management, and workforce development programs for a facility, campus, or portfolio of buildings. This role is part of the Engineering and Technical Services job function, focusing on providing support, preventive maintenance, and repairs on equipment and systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide formal supervision to employees, including monitoring training and development, conducting performance evaluations, and coaching.
• Oversee the recruiting and hiring of new employees.
• Coordinate and manage the team's daily activities, including setting work schedules, assigning tasks, and cross-training staff.
• Set and track staff and department deadlines, and mentor as needed.
• Manage operations and maintenance for assigned facilities.
• Assist in the development of operating and capital budgets.
• Implement improvements for preventive maintenance programs.
• Maintain effective building-specific maintenance and safety procedure manuals.
• Coordinate maintenance efforts with outside contractors, tenant finish personnel, and technicians.
• Oversee all building systems, including fire/life safety, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical issues.
• Remain current with the latest technology trends.
• Guide ongoing communication with tenants, clients, owners, facility management teams, and vendors.
• Facilitate the acquisition of new management contracts and maintain as-built drawings.
• Respond to emergency situations and customer concerns.
• Lead by example and model behaviors consistent with CBRE RISE values.
• Influence parties of shared interests to reach agreements.
• Apply knowledge of your discipline and how it integrates with others to achieve team and departmental objectives.
• Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve day-to-day and moderately complex issues.
• Develop programs for the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of liquid cooling components such as Coolant Distribution Units (CDUs), pumps, heat exchangers, and associated piping and control systems.
• Develop programs for fluid chemistry parameters (e.g., corrosion inhibitors, pH, conductivity, biological activity) for technical water systems supporting liquid cooling, coordinating sampling, filtration, and chemical dosing programs.
• Apply operational knowledge of liquid cooling systems, including direct-to-chip, immersion cooling, rear-door heat exchangers, CDUs, associated piping, pumps, and heat rejection units.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree preferred with 3-5 years of relevant experience. In lieu of a degree, a combination of experience and education will be considered.
• Experience in staffing, selection, training, development, coaching, mentoring, measuring, appraising, and rewarding performance and retention is preferred.
• Ability to guide the exchange of sensitive, complicated, and difficult information, convey performance expectations, and handle problems.
• Leadership skills to motivate team impact on quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of the job discipline and department.
• In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
• Extensive organizational skills with a strong inquisitive mind.
• Strong understanding of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, heat transfer principles, and water chemistry as applied to data center liquid cooling.
