Data Center Services Mechanical Commissioning Engineer

CAI seeks Mechanical Commissioning Engineers with a minimum of five to seven years' experience in Data Center Commissioning to support development and execution of all mechanical aspects of commissioning projects.

About the role

This position supports development and execution of all mechanical aspects of assigned commissioning projects from initial engagement, design reviews, checklists, safety support, script development, vendor coordination, testing, and report development through turnover to the client. The Mechanical Commissioning Engineer will support the development of the mechanical test schedule, finalize mechanical test procedures, review project submittals for consistency with the design intent, basis of design, and the owner’s project requirements, and maintain project cadence for the mechanical systems testing and associated Building Automation Systems.

The Mechanical Commissioning Engineer supports the planning and execution of commissioning for the mechanical infrastructure of mission-critical facilities. They will execute against the project schedule through coordination of contractors and/or vendors to complete mechanical systems testing. CAI DC Mechanical Commissioning Engineers work with cutting-edge technologies in hyperscale and other spaces, collaborating with recognized subject matter experts to bring data technologies to market.

Responsibilities

• Support and contribute to all aspects of safety for mechanical tests.
• Support complete commissioning and performance acceptance testing of mechanical infrastructure systems.
• Develop mechanical test procedures, MOPS, SOOs, and checklists.
• Perform QA/QC of all mechanical test procedures.
• Provide input and insight to the overall commissioning plan.
• Develop reports for mechanical testing and contribute to daily reports for the Commissioning Project Manager.
• Attend and actively participate in customer equipment Factory Witness Tests.
• Assist with vendor coordination and management.
• Perform equipment inspections to ensure build adherence to vendor submittals.
• Provide test documentation confirming equipment is delivered, installed, tested, and set to function properly.
• Support and perform design specification reviews, manufacturer submittals, one-line drawing sets, and project schedule documentation.
• Perform QA/QC of mechanical equipment installation and startup.
• Execute test scripts to confirm equipment and system operation to design specification.
• Ensure safe work practices are followed by the commissioning team and customer site personnel.
• Engage with customers and vendors to ensure positive experiences, goal achievement, and schedule adherence.
• Provide daily status reports for mechanical commissioning team activities.
• Conduct facility walk-downs, turnover, and punch list reviews.
• Demonstrate a general understanding of LEED specifications and requirements.
• Identify new opportunities for CAI to provide service and value to customers.
• Additional duties may be assigned based on experience and skill.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of five to seven years of Data Center Commissioning experience.
• Knowledge of OSHA safety requirements.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and specifications.
• Knowledge of mission-critical design concepts.
• Knowledge of Building Automation/Monitoring Systems (BAS/BMS), Air Handlers, Humidifiers, Variable Refrigerant Flow, Computer Room Air Conditioners/Handlers (CRAC/CRAH), Evaporators, Adiabatic Coolers, Pressure/Temperature/Humidity sensors, and Flowmeters.
• Knowledge of basic thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid flow.
• Knowledge of the Test, Adjust, and Balance (TAB) process.
• Knowledge of mechanical trend analysis.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to create final deliverables.
• Ability to work under construction site conditions.

• Excellent oral and written English skills.
• Extensive travel may be required (up to 75%).
• Must have a passport or the ability to obtain one immediately.
• Able to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future.
