Data Center Operations Technician I (Swing) (SV4)
About the role
As a Data Center Technician I at CoreSite, you will assist in maintaining the operational integrity, security, and regulatory compliance of the data center. This Tier 1 role provides hands-on experience by supporting day-to-day operations, including security functions, site response and triage, and customer interaction. You will ensure data center issues are identified and resolved quickly, contractors deliver quality services, and internal customer demands are met.
You will gain working knowledge of data center mechanical, electrical, telecom, and security equipment, including transformers, PLCs, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, chilled water systems, CRAC/CRAH units, sprinkler systems, security hardware, and CCTV.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and respond to abnormal conditions in facilities systems, including mechanical, electrical, building monitoring, security, and control systems.
- Follow management direction for day-to-day activities and incident escalation, including report writing.
- Provide physical security within CoreSite premises and exceptional customer service and support.
- Compose detailed reports and daily activity logs; maintain and complete regular facility and security tours, documenting and responding to issues.
- Manage building service requests through resolution and notify customers, management, and facility teams of security system alarms and breaches.
- Oversee loading dock shipping and receiving.
- Assist in managing systems to avoid unplanned customer-impacting outages.
- Perform and complete work orders and customer service tickets in a timely manner.

- Participate in special projects as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or greater.
- 1+ years of experience in either customer service or the security industry; experience in a mission-critical facility is a plus.
- Ability to pass an extensive background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications, and Department of Motor Vehicle and credit checks.
- Schedule flexibility with ability to work non-standard business hours, including weekends, late nights, holidays, and on-call support.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds 1/3 of the time.
Skills
- Familiarity with CCTV and access control security systems.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to learn quickly in a mission-critical 24x7 environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers and internal staff.
- Exhibits a strong work ethic, accountability, and ability to work independently while following escalation procedures for critical or emergency situations.
- Ability to operate in and promote a rigorous, process-driven team environment.
- Logical problem-solving and effective multi-tasking skills.
- Proficiency in operating hand and machine tools (e.g., hammer, drill, saw) and electrical tools (e.g., multi-meter, infrared camera).
- Familiarity with computer systems and software programs such as MS Word, Excel, and MS Outlook.
- On-the-job understanding of mechanical, electrical, fire life safety, and security systems used in a data center environment.
