About the role

Amazon seeks exceptional leaders for a strategic senior management position overseeing our data center operations. This executive role offers significant visibility within the organization and aligns with our mission of becoming the world's most customer-centric company. The leader will direct managers responsible for mission-critical data center infrastructure, manage network systems, server operations, and infrastructure maintenance, and ensure optimal availability and performance across multiple regional facilities.

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and all the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise a team of Data Center Managers (3-9 areas and front-line managers) and 100-150 hourly associates within Regional Data Centers.
  • Attain organizational performance goals and objectives relating to safety, security, availability, scaling, and efficiency in support of our data center operations.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures.
  • Accountability for meeting and exceeding operational goals.
  • Strategic planning and forecasting; appraise performance; reward and discipline employees; resolve problems; and address staffing needs.
  • Obsess over team learning and development, both from a technical/functional and soft skills (critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and adaptability) development perspective including mentoring and training.
  • Develop, improve, and share operational best practices across the globe.
  • Hiring, managing, and developing the operations management team including data center managers and data center operations technicians.
  • Planning and executing the Infrastructure Operations component of new AWS data center buildouts, new colocation buildouts, AWS data center expansions, and colocation expansions, including the network and server rack infrastructure to facilitate daily operations.
  • Experience in successful insourcing and/or outsourcing specific tasks balancing internal skillsets with frugality.
  • Continuous improvement of operational processes, procedures, methods, and tools.
  • Support data centers in various operational stages, including facilities still under development, which may require travel to established locations for training until the designated site becomes fully operational.

Requirements

  • Ability to travel to or commute between data center locations as needed.
  • Willingness to temporarily work at alternative sites during training periods or until assigned facility is operational.
  • Travel frequency will vary based on business needs and operational status of assigned facility.
  • Candidates must be able to travel (over 50 miles) or commute (less than 50 miles) to active data center sites as required by business needs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience in technical work related to computer systems and technology components.
  • 7+ years management experience in an operations, critical infrastructure, manufacturing, production, or distribution environment.
  • 3+ years' experience implementing LEAN/6 Sigma methodology (continuous improvement, DMAIC/DVADV, 5 Whys, Root Cause analysis, etc.).
  • 3+ years of experience in working with network cabling, optic types, and test equipment, and experience with cabling infrastructure best practices and methodologies within a data center-based environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Continuous Improvement and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Lean-Six Sigma Black Belt certification.
  • 7+ years of mission critical facilities experience.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification.
  • Experience with safety, security, and availability of incident response, incident management, and incident resolution.
  • 7+ years' experience managing geographically dispersed teams.

Skills

  • Comprehensive knowledge of both data center IT infrastructure and AWS cloud platforms, with a clear understanding of their integration and interoperability.
  • Proven leadership in complex data center environments and a track record of operational excellence.
  • Passion for Customer Experience and global thinking.

Pay

USA, IN, New Carlisle - $145,400.00 - $254,500.00 USD annually.

Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
