Data Center Leader
About the role
The Data Center Leader position is based out of the Houston office and is dedicated to growing Arup's data center design offering. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 15 years of experience in delivering design and consulting services to clients, particularly in the delivery of mission critical facilities including data centers. They should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical or Architectural) and a Professional Engineering license in Texas.
Responsibilities
- Lead effective and efficient delivery of data center projects, managing the performance of the technical team consisting of both internal and external project team resources, in full compliance with corporate standards
- Quality control reviewer and Engineer of Record on multi-million scale projects
- Managing stakeholders, client expectations and relationships
- Aid in defining project schedule, staffing and cost targets
- Identify and manage project risks
- Deliver work to a high standard of quality, client satisfaction and profitability
- Train other members of the team in Electrical Engineering delivery on data center projects
- Act as a recognized subject matter expert (SME) on electrical engineering in the data center sector, and support technical excellence regionally
- Attend, and speak at, conferences and other industry events to highlight Arup’s expertise in the DC sector and to further our work winning opportunities
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with existing and prospective clients as a technical client-facing project leader, to grow our pipeline of repeat business with existing clients
- Assist Americas Science, Industry and Technology leadership in developing data center business regionally, identifying opportunities with current and new clients, developing client relationships and supporting major bids
- Contribute to the overall team management in Texas
Requirements
The successful candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical or Architectural) and a minimum of 15 years of experience in the delivery of design and consulting services to clients, especially in the delivery of mission critical facilities including data centers. They should also possess a Professional Engineering license in Texas.
Qualifications
- Demonstrable design management experience having successfully led multidisciplinary teams on design and/or construction of building and/or infrastructure projects in a fast-paced environment
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills essential for team-based working with colleagues and clients of all levels
- Highly professional, able to develop and sustain the respect of peers and clients alike
- Attentive to detail - always seeking quality and excellence in their work
- Collaborative approach and willingness to work as an integral part of the team
- Proven track record to develop cross-sector project delivery teams, including in-house interdisciplinary and sub-consultant groups
- Design/consulting project manager with 5 or more years leading design teams and acting as the main point of contact for owner/clients with full-project technical understanding and capability of leading teams composed of architecture/civil/structural, MEP and specialist consultants
- Ability to travel and collaborate with teams that are local, regional, and global
Skills
The ideal candidate should have strong technical skills in Electrical Engineering, excellent project management abilities, and the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams. They should also be able to communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders and attend and speak at industry events.

Pay
The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in Houston is $167,000 to $280,000 per year. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary.
