Data Center Infrastructure Engineer
About the role
TSMC Arizona offers an opportunity to contribute to the most advanced semiconductor fabrication facility in the United States. TSMC Arizona's first fab began production with leading-edge N4 process technology in the first half of 2025, with additional fabs utilizing even more advanced process technology planned for 2028–2030. This role focuses on leading the operation, optimization, and automation of high-performance data center facilities, blending hands-on infrastructure management with project-level design for new construction and existing operations.
Responsibilities
- Project Management: Lead or support projects for new data center construction and upgrades, collaborating with engineering, operations, and IT teams to define scope, objectives, and technical requirements. Provide operational and system expertise during design reviews, equipment selection, and commissioning. Track progress, identify risks, and implement solutions to meet schedules and performance targets while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards. Recommend improvements based on completed projects.
- Data Center Operations and Maintenance: Regularly inspect and maintain critical systems including HVAC, UPS, generators, electrical distribution, piping, and water treatment. Monitor facility systems, respond to abnormal conditions, and resolve system issues to maintain uptime and reliability. Support startup, commissioning, and integration of new equipment, tracking performance trends and implementing improvements.
- Cooling Systems and Energy Optimization: Conduct thermal simulations and flow optimization analyses to define optimal cooling architectures during early-stage development. Lead implementation and optimization of immersion and direct liquid cooling (DLC) tank/rack infrastructure to achieve a PUE target below 1.1. Oversee maintenance, diagnostic troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives to reduce operational costs and enhance energy efficiency.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related technical field.
- At least three (3) years of experience in operating and maintaining mission-critical facilities, including electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems.
- Skilled in using monitoring and log analysis tools to quickly identify and resolve operational issues.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexible to work non-standard hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Licensed Electrical Technician.
- Familiarity with immersion cooling and thermal system simulations, including DLC system optimization for ongoing operations and development.
- Strong Python programming skills with experience in API development and automation scripting to streamline operations.
- Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Solid understanding of DevOps practices and deploying containerized applications in production environments.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work across office, clean-room, and data center environments, performing tasks ranging from standard office duties to specialized operations in controlled spaces.
- Occasionally lift or move up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to use a computer, keyboard, mouse, and other standard office equipment for prolonged periods.
- Able to wear clean-room suit while standing and/or walking in the FAB as needed.
