Data Center Area Operations Manager
About the role
The Data Center Operations (DCO) Cluster Manager leads and supervises a team of Data Center Managers and 100-150 hourly technicians within Regional Data Centers. They drive operational performance goals and objectives relating to safety, security, availability, scaling, and efficiency. They carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures. They are responsible for strategic planning and forecasting, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, resolving problems, and addressing staffing needs.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise a team of Data Center Managers (3-9 Area and front-line managers) and 100-150 hourly technicians within Regional Data Centers.
- Drive operational performance goals and objectives relating to safety, security, availability, scaling, and efficiency.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures.
- Strategic planning and forecasting; appraise performance; reward and discipline employees; resolve problems; and address staffing needs.
- Obsess over team learning and development, both from a technical/functional and soft skills (critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and adaptability) development perspective including mentoring and training.
- Develop, improve, and share operational best practices across the globe.
- Hire, manage, and develop the operations management team including data center managers and data center operations technicians.
- Plan and execute the Infrastructure Operations component of new AWS data center build-outs, new colocation build-outs, AWS data center expansions, and colocation expansions, including the network and server rack infrastructure to facilitate the daily operations.
- Continuous improvement of operational processes, procedures, methods, and tools.
Requirements
- 5+ years of management experience
- 5+ years of operations management experience
- Experience with Lean/Six Sigma
- 4+ years of professional work experience, or experience in technical work related to computer systems and technology components
- 3+ years of managing managers experience
- Bachelor's degree or above in computer science, computer engineering, or related field, or experience managing teams in these fields
Qualifications
- 3+ years of work in identifying security issues and risks, and developing mitigation plans experience
- 7+ years of team management experience
- 10+ years of design, construction or program management in mission critical facilities experience
- Experience in written and verbal communication with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to executives and non-technical leaders
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement principles & techniques

Pay
$145,400.00 - $254,500.00 USD annually
