Data Analyst
About the Role
Markel Corporation is seeking a Data Analyst within Markel's Operations Excellence & Reporting team. This position is responsible for creating, maintaining, updating, and communicating reports and analytics for various products within the Programs and Solutions Division of Markel.
Responsibilities
- Create and deliver consolidated reporting mechanisms and segmentation analysis to support risk guidelines, process changes, and pricing approach decisions.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of available reporting mechanisms, technology infrastructures and frameworks, data structures, and definitions used to produce and maintain operational, transactional, and financial metrics in support of assigned departments.
- Analyze various aspects of business activity to support management decision-making and operational tracking; work diligently to find resolutions to roadblocks and educate/intercede when necessary on the customer's behalf to ensure satisfactory resolution is identified.
- Apply concepts such as probability, statistics, modeling, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical solutions.
- Work with mathematical concepts such as averages and/or variances.
- Analyze information to evaluate the implications of a course of action or solution.
- Interpret and apply common-sense understanding to carry out a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Solve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Evaluate trends in data or information.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in report and data analytics preferred.
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Strong working knowledge of SQL preferred.
- Experience with the following: Python, Django web framework, JavaScript, Databricks, Power BI, Jira, and React.js.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong organization and time management skills.
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Visio, Word).
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong team player.
- Flexibility and attention to details and completeness.
- Ability to manage multiple projects with time-sensitive deadlines.

Pay
The base salary offered for the successful candidate will be based on compensable factors such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors. The national average salary range for the Data Analyst is $62,400 - $85,800 with 12% incentive.
