About the role
The New York City Mayor’s Office oversees city services across the five boroughs, coordinates public agencies and departments, and manages public property. The administration is focused on making the city more affordable, reducing inequality, improving public safety, delivering efficient services, and strengthening the local economy. The Office of the First Deputy ensures City government runs efficiently and advances top priorities—from youth opportunities to civic infrastructure—by partnering with stakeholders to develop, scale, coordinate, and deliver equitable and sustainable policies, plans, and operations.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with staff in the First Deputy Mayor’s Office and coordinate inter-agency collaboration to build buy-in and facilitate effective implementation of initiatives.
- Drive analytical structuring of hypothesis-based problem-solving for complex strategic or operational issues, including data analysis and visualization.
- Develop detailed data-driven plans to achieve goals and outputs of strategic projects.
- Engage internal and external stakeholders to identify and prioritize activities and coordinate their implementation.
- Proactively identify and mitigate risks, and analytically structure and problem-solve issues that may arise during project execution.
- Track and report on project plans, and support broader updates to senior internal and external stakeholders through preparation of materials and coordination of meetings.
- Identify cross-cutting change management needs and design and coordinate implementation of change management activities associated with special projects.
- Reporting to the Senior Advisor for Efficiency and Operations, collaborate across city agencies to design, plan, and manage implementation of efficiency projects that improve service delivery.
- Lead projects involving new business strategies, policies, processes, technology, data, human resources, training, and other areas, frequently requiring analytical structuring and quantitative and qualitative analysis.
- Facilitate organizational initiatives with a focus on program and project management, stakeholder buy-in, cross-functional teaming, process streamlining and efficiency improvements, and resource optimization.

- You are a strategic thinker and structured problem-solver, able to drive change and innovation while managing diverse responsibilities and competing priorities.
- You can communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing, and translate complex issues for staff at different levels and diverse stakeholders.
- You have strong skills in strategic planning, strategy and policy development, and program and project management.
- You can quickly build content knowledge in new areas and demonstrate data and process fluency.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 5+ years of experience.
Preferred Skills
- Experience working within NYC government or comparable government ecosystems.
- Strong background in business process improvement, operations, or management consulting.
- Strong technology skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, program/project management software, data visualization and analytics tools.
- Experience with agile management and solution development techniques preferred; broader IT and systems experience is an asset.
Pay
$90,000.00 – $110,000.00
