Data Analyst 1

Classification: Data Analyst 1, Research Department – Iowa Department of Corrections (DOC), Des Moines, Iowa. Reports to the Research Director.

About the Role

The Iowa Department of Corrections Research Department is seeking a highly analytical and mission-driven data analyst to support data and analytics, the offender management system (OMS), and data literacy efforts across the agency. This role is critical to reducing recidivism and improving public safety through data-driven decision-making. You will transform raw correctional data into actionable insights, helping leadership understand population trends, program effectiveness, and operational visibility.

Responsibilities

• Support data and analytics initiatives within the Research Department.
• Work with the offender management system (OMS) to extract and analyze correctional data.
• Enhance data literacy efforts across the agency.
• Transform raw data into actionable insights for leadership, focusing on population trends, program effectiveness, and operational improvements.

Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements:

• Four years of full-time work experience in business/data/statistical analytics, economic research, or data science.
• A combination of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described above), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in business analytics, economics, data science, statistics, mathematics, management information systems, or industrial management equals one year of full-time experience.
• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in business analytics, economics, data science, statistics, mathematics, management information systems, or industrial management.
• Both of the following:
  • A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described above), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience.
  • Possession of a professional certificate in data science, business analytics, or data analytics.
