Dance Teacher / Program Leader
About the role
Calvary Day School is seeking a passionate, highly skilled, and collaborative dance educator to serve as the Dance Teacher for Calvary’s Company Dance program. This position will work within a highly collaborative Fine Arts Department with shared production, operational, and strategic support.
Responsibilities
Develop and refine a vertically aligned dance curriculum and technical training pipeline spanning the Early Learning Center through the Upper School.
Lead scope and sequence initiatives for dance education across divisions.
Company Dance Leadership:
Lead and develop Calvary Day School’s Company Dance program.
Direct a technique-focused company dance ensemble emphasizing artistic excellence, ballet training, discipline, and high-level performance opportunities while incorporating select contemporary and traditional styles.
Foster artistic excellence, discipline, collaboration, and student leadership within the dance program.
Coordinate closely with GHSA Dance Team coaches to align scheduling priorities, rehearsal calendars, and dance studio usage.
Assist in student recruitment, retention, and community engagement efforts related to dance programming.
Productions and Performances:
Lead the planning, choreography, and production of all major dance performances, including seasonal concerts, recitals, chapel showcases, and special events.
Manage rehearsals, costume coordination, lighting/sound collaboration, and backstage logistics.
Cook up auditions, rehearsals, production logistics, and performance communication with students, parents, faculty, and staff.
Work collaboratively with parent volunteer committees to support production and student-focused outcomes.
Instruction and Curriculum Development:
Teach developmentally appropriate dance classes to students from ELC through 12th grade.
Design and implement a comprehensive dance curriculum that includes ballet, jazz, modern, and other styles as appropriate.
Integrate biblical worldview and character development into teaching and classroom management.
Differentiate instruction to meet a wide range of abilities and developmental stages.
Program Administration:
Maintain clear communication with parents and faculty regarding schedules, expectations, and student progress.
Cook with other Fine Arts staff, division heads, and administration on calendar planning, performance dates, and space usage.
Track and manage program-related budgets, supplies, and vendor relationships.
Fine Arts Academy:
Oversee the Fine Arts Academy after-school dance program, assisting in the development and growth of enrollment, offerings, and student experience to generate external revenue for the school while expanding dance opportunities for students.
Serve as a primary instructor within the Fine Arts Academy dance division and support the team of Fine Arts Academy dance instructors.
Direct and oversee annual dance productions to include: Fall Dance Concert / Recital, Spring Dance Concert / Recital, and additional performances as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Dance, Dance Education, Performing Arts, or a related field preferred.
Strong technical training and instructional experience in ballet and technique-based dance education.
Experience teaching dance in studio, school, or conservatory settings.
Experience directing dance productions, recitals, or performance ensembles.
Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively within a dynamic Fine Arts Department.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends during performance seasons.
