About the role

The 10-week Summer Associate Program offers students a realistic glimpse into life as an associate at Sheppard's firm. The program kicks off with a welcome reception and two-day Summer Associate Academy in Los Angeles, which includes introductions to the firm, professional development workshops, and networking opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Receive hands-on experience working closely with partners and associates on significant client matters.
• Participate in depositions, court appearances, conference calls, and negotiations.
• Draft legal documents and observe meetings.
• Engage in pro bono projects.
• Benefit from regular feedback through formal mid-summer and end-of-summer reviews, as well as informal guidance from supervisors.
• Work under the mentorship of an attorney who guides and advises throughout the summer.
• Attend a balanced schedule of social events to meet attorneys and fellow summer associates.

Hiring Criteria

A minimum GPA of 3.3 is required; a minimum of 3.4 is preferred. Candidates must have participated in moot court/mock trials and/or have law journal experience, and demonstrate leadership skills, initiative, and the ability to handle responsibility. Law school transcripts are not required at this stage; applicants will be provided a link to upload their transcripts after submitting their application. Applicants interested in business litigation, finance, and intellectual property are encouraged to apply. Practice group rotations are not offered. Each summer associate is assigned to a single practice group for the duration of the program.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $225,000 - $225,000 per year.

Schedule

The program runs for 10 weeks, typically from June to August.
