About the role

UK Healthcare is seeking a Cytotechnologist. This position will perform laboratory procedures under the direction of the Cytopathology Supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Perform primary screening of cytology slides with accuracy
• Maintain similar pick-up rates for abnormalities with error rates not exceeding thresholds
• Perform immediate adequacy evaluations for aspirate and touch prep slides
• Accurately use computer system to record all procedures performed and enter interpretations for reports
• Record neatly and legibly all documentation required to be written as opposed to computer entry
• Remain calm in high-pressure situations and make quick decisions
• Change priorities as emergencies arise
• Keep up to date on all new procedures and policy changes in the Cytology procedure manual
• Perform or assist with projects or duties as assigned and approved by the supervisor and/or director
• Must successfully meet required performance standards of competency and proficiency testing

Requirements

• BS degree (see equivalencies: https://hr.uky.edu/employment/working-uk/equivalencies)
• Cytotechnologist (CT) certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) at time of hire
• Must successfully pass a pre-employment onsite slide screening test

Physical requirements

• Sitting or standing for long periods
• Daily exposure to disagreeable odors, chemicals and blood borne pathogens
• Lifting, pushing, and pulling objects up to 25lbs
• Ability to push a cart to other areas of the hospital for ROSE procedures
• Repetitive motion daily

Schedule

Monday – Friday, (40 hrs/wk), 8:00am – 4:30pm.

Pay

$30.00-53.67/hour

Preferred qualifications

3 years cytotechnology experience preferred but not required.
