Cytotechnologist- Anatomic Pathology

About the role

The Cytotechnologist independently performs all levels of high-complexity testing, works effectively with physician staff to provide accurate diagnostic results, and operates with minimal supervision. This role involves evaluating and diagnosing non-GYN cases for pathology review, independently assessing GYN cases, and performing Rapid On-Site Evaluations (ROSE) for FNA procedures, including EBUS, EUS, robotic-assisted endoscopic procedures, CT-guided, and ultrasound-guided procedures.

Responsibilities

• Exercise independent judgment in recognizing and solving test-related problems.
• Lead or perform technical job duties as specified in CAP regulations.
• Act as a resource for staff to resolve technically difficult problems with tests or equipment and assist with customer issues.
• Ensure remedial actions are taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications.
• Perform cytopreparatory techniques on GYN and non-GYN material.
• Prepare stains and maintain related records and files, ensuring compliance with established policies, practices, procedures, and standards.
• Organize and prioritize work, diagnose, and report data.
• Operate laboratory equipment appropriately.
• Perform job duties in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of Tampa General Hospital.

Requirements

• Baccalaureate degree in biology, medical technology, or a closely related field with one (1) year of training in an accredited cytotechnology program, or a Baccalaureate degree in Cytotechnology.
• Must meet and maintain qualifications for personnel performing high-complexity testing as outlined in CLIA 88 regulations.
• One (1) year of experience in an accredited cytotechnology program.
• Cytotechnology (ASCP) certification.

Pay

Minimum salary: $37.50 per hour.

Schedule

• Type: Full-time, on-site.
• Shift: Day shift, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
• Work Location: TGH Main Campus, Tampa General Hospital.
