Cytotechnologist
Job Responsibilities
Screen and evaluate any gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens sent to the laboratory for the determination of possible malignant or related abnormal conditions.
Screening of all liquid based cytology, both manual and imaged, as well as conventional slides.
Microscopic evaluation of cytological specimens following laboratory procedures and policies.
Maintain absolute integrity in the accurate performance and reporting of results.
Absorb and assist with Fine Needle Aspirations.
Meet slide screening requirements as per standard operating procedure.
Finalize testing results into the computer in an accurate and timely manner.
Provide backup for cytology processing and other tasks as needed.
Comply with all safety, infection control and HIPAA policies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Cytology Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology
- Completion of a Cytology program
- ASCP Cytotechnologist (CT) Certification
- TN state Cytotechnologist license
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters’ degree in Cytology
- 3 months or more of Cytology experience
- ThinPrep and SurePath certifications
Additional Job Standards
- Able to pass slide screening requirements and annual CAP proficiency test
- Demonstrated understanding of Cyto preparation techniques
- Automated and non-automated testing experience
- Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
- Experience in a high volume clinical laboratory environment
- Able to work independently and within a team environment
- Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems
- High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
- Able to handle the physical requirements of the position
- Able to pass a standardized color blindness test

Employees regularly scheduled to work less than 20 hours, Casual, Intern, and Temporary employees are only eligible to participate in the 401(k) Plan.
Employees who are regularly scheduled to work a 7 on/7 off schedule are eligible to receive all the foregoing benefits except PTO or FTO.
