About the role
Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) is adding a Cytopathologist to the group at NYC Health + Hospitals/South Brooklyn Health. The campus features the new 11‑floor Ruth Bader Ginsburg Hospital with emergency care, labor and delivery, surgical services, and a Health & Wellness Institute offering outpatient primary, preventive, and specialty care. The hospital is academically affiliated with SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University and NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine and is part of the nation’s largest municipal health care delivery system, committed to equitable, high‑quality care for all New Yorkers.
Responsibilities
- Sign‑out of general anatomic pathology cases, including surgical pathology and both GYN and non‑Gyn Cytology.
- Supervise cytotechnologists and ensure quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) compliance for Cytology.
- Maintain cytology statistics, SOP manuals, and regulatory compliance for all inspecting agencies.
- Participate in Cytology proficiency testing and reporting.
- Perform intra‑operative consultations.
- Perform ultrasound‑guided fine needle aspiration (FNA) biopsies of palpable and non‑palpable lesions in outpatient and inpatient settings.
- Conduct rapid on‑site evaluation (ROSE) for specimen adequacy and preliminary interpretation.
- Provide ongoing education to fellows, residents, medical students, and laboratory personnel in cytopathology and FNA technique.
- Review of abnormal Hematology slides.
- Participate in interdisciplinary conferences, including tumor boards and specialty‑specific meetings.
- Performance and sign‑out of postmortem examinations.
- Participate in departmental quality assurance activities.
- Teach medical students and clinical residents.
- Provide consultative input to referring physicians regarding lab findings.
- Occasional night or weekend coverage for frozen sections may be required.
