About the role

The UW Medicine - Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology (DLMP) in Seattle, WA has a fantastic opportunity for a Cytology Technologist 2 with the Cytology Laboratory at Harborview Medical Center.

Responsibilities

  • Performs screening of gynecological and non-gynecological specimens, reporting of negative gynecological cases, and refers preliminary diagnosed non-negative gynecological and all non-gynecological cases to the pathologist.
  • Performs quality control assessments of cytopreparation and rescreening of gynecologic cases.
  • Performs laboratory specimen processing consisting of gynecologic and non-gynecologic slide preparation, manual staining, and coverslipping of slides.
  • Maintains staining setup and prepares chemical reagents according to laboratory procedures.
  • Responds to inquiries concerning specimen requirements and case status.
  • Affords assistance in fine needle aspiration procedures and performs rapid on-site immediate assessment for fine needle aspirations and core needle biopsies using telecytology when indicated.
  • Maintains and documents daily documentation of the total number of slides examined and total number of hours spent screening at the University of Washington and at any other laboratory, and in accordance with CLIA/CAP regulations.
  • Complies with lab policies, safety regulations, and state and federal requirements.
  • Participates in training students, trainees, and new employees.
  • Performs the work of the Cytology Technologist 1.
  • Performs duties in support of anatomic pathology services as assigned.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor of Science degree AND Graduation from an Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) accredited school of cytotechnology or other organization approved by Health and Human Services (HHS) AND American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Registry (BOR) certification as a Cytotechnologist (CT) or Specialist in Cytotechnology (SCT).
  • At least 3 years’ full-time experience as a cytotechnologist within the preceding 10 years.

Qualifications

  • Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
  • Desired Qualifications: Previous experience as a Cytology Technologist 2 Certified to perform ThinPrep GYN screening Successful completion of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) Pap Proficiency test within the last year.

Pay Range Minimum: $45.57 hourly Pay Range Maximum $67.19 hourly
