Lab Technician II - Cytopathology

About the role

Cleveland Clinic's Cytopathology Laboratory evaluates a large volume of gynecologic (65,000) and non-gynecologic (20,000) specimens in a wide range of disease categories. As a Lab Technician II, you will be responsible for processing routine and stat laboratory tests as well as performing specimen investigation procedures to resolve lab specimen issues or problems. This is a very hands-on team and a great place to get your foot in the door. This role can not only lead to growth within the lab but also the ability to move into other roles. A caregiver in this position works PRN, varying hours.

Responsibilities

• Receive and accession laboratory specimens into the LIS
• Retrieve, sort, track and deliver specimens
• Perform specimen investigation procedures to resolve lab specimen issues or problems
• Verify accurate documentation relative to specimen processing
• Maintain patient, specimen and tracking data using the laboratory computer system, tracking and software/devices
• Prepare specimens for analysis and accept or reject specimens
• Perform manual processing (centrifuge, aliquoting and routine maintenance)

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• One year of lab experience

Preferred qualifications

• Associate's Degree in Science (will substitute the required experience)

Physical requirements

• Ability to perform specimen handling techniques and take measurements
• Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods
• Ability to move throughout the department and hospital system
• Handles and transports biohazardous materials and potential carcinogens
• Ability to differentiate color, hue, saturation, and tones
• Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs

Pay

Minimum hourly: $22.25 Maximum hourly: $22.25
