About the role
The Laboratory Educator at Department 60987 Carolinas Medical Center - Core Lab: Cytogenetics is responsible for providing education and support to the laboratory, including students and laboratory teammates. They are expected to work independently with a focus on collaboration, communication, and innovation.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates proficiency and follows testing procedures and policies by adhering to quality assurance guidelines for equipment and work area, documenting corrective action to any non-conforming events.
- Participates in a competency assessment program, where qualified.
- Fosters a culture that values and recognizes the importance of teaching excellence for students and teammates.
- Collaborates with lab leaders to deliver a new teammate onboarding experience that is inclusive, teamwork focused, and highlights our Culture Commitments.
- Sets up and coordinates efficient training of students and teammates, delegating authority and responsibility as appropriate to ensure training documentation is completed in a timely manner.
- Designs, develops, and facilitates the dissemination of standard best practice training resources in response to healthcare trends, regulatory requirements, and strategic priorities of the organization.
- Utilizes multiple education modalities and leverages use of technology to provide educational activities both on and off the bench to increase engagement and productivity.
- Affirms learning styles and level of experience to customize training programs to provide a unique one-on-one learning experience.
- Maintains clear, real-time communications shift-to-shift and with leadership regarding issues, concerns and problems which may affect patient care or the operation of the department.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required.
- At least two years prior experience in a laboratory setting required and 5 years' experience preferred.
- MT(ASCP), MLS (ASCP), M(ASCP), MB(ASCP), HTL(ASCP) or CT(ASCP) preferred.
- MT(ASCP), MLS (ASCP), M(ASCP), MB(ASCP), HTL(ASCP) or CT(ASCP) required as appropriate to perform clinical testing.
- Teaching experience preferred.
Qualifications
- Works in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Works in an area which contains biohazardous (infectious) materials along with chemical, fire, and mechanical hazards.
- Duties may involve standing, walking, stretching, stooping, bending, and lifting light (20 pound) to moderately heavy (50 pound) loads.

Pay
$35.50 - $53.25 per hour based on qualifications, skills, relevant experience, and/or training.
Schedule
Variable. Primarily Monday-Friday 6:00am-2:30pm. Rotating Monday-Friday 12:30pm-9:00pm as needed for teammate training.
