About the Role

This position involves applying practical knowledge of youth recreational activities and skills in the use of various types of recreation equipment. The role supports the maintenance of recreational facilities and ensures a safe environment for children and youth.

Responsibilities

• Instruct children and youth on the proper use of a variety of recreational equipment.
• Issue and receive recreational equipment, maintaining hand receipts and collecting inventoried items.
• Identify age-appropriate equipment for procurement, select vendors, and purchase gear as needed.
• Inspect supplies and equipment for damage, ensuring sufficient supplies are on hand and equipment is in good condition.
• Assist in setting up sports events and athletic programs as needed.
• Maintain an effective safety and accident prevention program.
• Conduct daily safety and maintenance checks of facilities, grounds, and outdoor recreation areas.
• Recommend and purchase equipment required to maintain facility safety compliance.
• Operate various types of equipment for athletic field maintenance (e.g., lawn mowers, tractors with attachments, edging and pruning tools, trimmers, rakes).
• Apply fertilizer, seed, and herbicides as needed.
• Collect and empty trash containers.

Requirements

• Direct Deposit and Social Security Card are required.
• Must meet qualification, eligibility, and background requirements for the position.
• A one-year probationary period may be required.
• Must satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
• Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks, including a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation.
• Must successfully complete and maintain the Crime Control Act requirements.
• A health assessment is required.
• Satisfactory performance, successful completion of training, and demonstrated on-the-job competency are required.
• Travel to on- and off-post locations is required; a valid driver’s license may be necessary for positions requiring driving.
• May be subject to varying and/or rotating shifts between 06:00 AM and 06:00 PM, including occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays.

The dual compensation guidelines do not apply to this position. All GS and NAF employees, whether full-time or part-time, are eligible to apply.

Qualifications

• Progressively responsible work experience providing knowledge of equipment and facility maintenance, inventory, ordering, and instructing.
• Experience with the use of various recreation equipment.
• Good customer relations skills.
• Must be physically able to walk, bend, stoop, and stand on a routine basis.
• Ability to lift supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

This job is part of a pay-banded system. Non-foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will not be paid.
